The end of the rate card: how we price every business on its own profile

The end of the rate card: how we price every business on its own profile

A week ago we stopped giving businesses a rate card. We used to publish a short list of fixed rates, the same handful of numbers for every company that came to us. That is gone. Now we price every business on its own profile, and the owner sees one real rate, not a menu to shop.

This is a bigger change than it sounds, so it is worth explaining what we did and why.

The problem with a headline rate

Most business lenders lead with their lowest number. It pulls you in; then the rate you are actually offered, once someone has looked at your accounts, is a different figure. You have spent time on an application built around a price you were never going to get. The headline did its job for the lender, not for you.

A fixed rate card has the opposite problem. One rate for everyone is simple, but it is wrong for almost everyone. The stronger businesses overpay to subsidise the riskier ones, and the number tells you nothing about your own company.

We wanted to stop doing both.

What personalised pricing means

From now on, your rate is set on your business. Not on a list, and not on how hard you are willing to push. We assess your company, and we come back with one rate that reflects it. Most businesses land around our representative rate of 2.99% a month; some pay a little more, a smaller number pay less, and the figure you get is the figure, not an opening bid.

You will not see a menu, because there isn’t one to show you. There is one rate, and it is yours.

How you get your rate

The whole thing runs on Open Banking, and it is quick.

You connect your business accounts once, securely and read-only. We run a full assessment on that information alongside a credit check, and that assessment sets your price. The rate comes back to you, usually within a day, as a real offer rather than an estimate.

Connecting the accounts is the part that produces a number, so it is the part worth doing first. There is no price before it, and no catch after it.

What you actually pay

We charge interest only on the balance you draw, on a reducing balance, so as you repay, the interest falls. There are no setup fees, no platform fees, no service fees, and no early repayment charges. You see the whole cost before you commit, not after.

Representative example. Based on a £50,000 facility drawn in full and repaid over 12 monthly instalments after a 60-day interest-only start, at a representative rate of 2.99% a month on the reducing balance, with no fees: total interest £11,213, total amount repayable £61,213. Representative 37.1% APR. Your actual rate depends on a full assessment of your business, and not all businesses will qualify.

How to earn our best price

Your rate is set on risk, but the shape of your deal can move it, and these levers are genuine ones you can see and explain.

A firmer or longer commitment helps. More certainty for us means a better rate for you, which is ordinary lending logic rather than a trick.

A complete application helps too: full information, accounts connected, nothing left outstanding, so we can decide without chasing you for the missing piece. That also gets you an answer faster.

And a clean track record counts. If you have drawn and repaid with us before, that earns trust, and trust earns a better price on your next facility.

What does not move your rate is how hard you haggle. There is no discount to extract, because the moment there is, we are back to running a price list where the first number is never the real one. The levers are about your business and your deal, not the argument.

The honest trade-off

Pricing on risk means two businesses that look similar from the outside can end up with different rates. We know that, and we would still choose it. The alternative is one rate that is wrong for most people, or a cheap headline almost nobody actually gets. We would rather give you a number that fits your business and tell you plainly what would improve it.

If you ever want to know why your rate is what it is, we can tell you. It is set on your own profile, and we will say what would move it. Consistent, and explainable, every time.

Built to be transparent

We were voted the Most Transparent SME Lender 2026, and this is us trying to keep earning it. Transparency is not only an honest headline rate. It is charging for what you use, showing the full cost before you sign, and pricing you on your business rather than on a guess. Personalised pricing is the same promise, done properly.

See your rate

Connect your accounts through Open Banking and we will show you a real rate matched to your business, usually within 24 hours. No fees, no early repayment charges, and the whole cost up front.
